Senior Fellow Kaveh Shahrooz joined MLI’s newest Senior Fellow Jamil Jivani on Tonight with Jamil Jivani to discuss Shahrooz’s work as a human rights lawyer, specifically his tireless advocacy on fighting for human rights for Iran.

Shahrooz and Jivani also discuss the recent scandal involving Globe and Mail running content from Chinese state media and how media needs to have a much more critical stance against hostile foreign governments.

Jamil Jivani is an award-winning lawyer and author, who serves as the Government of Ontario’s first-ever advocate for Community Opportunities. He also leads a youth-focused research nonprofit, Road Home Research & Analysis, which is supported by the Pinball Clemens Foundation, and hosts a weekly radio show, “Tonight with Jamil Jivani” on Newstalk 1010.

Kaveh Shahrooz is a lawyer and human rights activist, and a Senior Fellow with MLI's Centre for Advancing Canada's Interests Abroad. He is also a former Senior Policy Advisor on human rights to Global Affairs Canada. A graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Toronto, he has written widely on human rights issues and international affairs. He led a recent successful effort to convince Canada's parliament to recognize the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran as constituting crimes against humanity under international law. He resides in Toronto.
